Let's define these two words for a minute, what does it mean to correct
According to dictionary.com, correct means free from error, in accordance with fact or truth, put right. The definition of judging- form an opinion or conclusion. Urban dictionary defines judging as the act of putting a person down, regarding a person as an inferior.
Many people in today's world have this new catch phrase "stop judging me". Since I have taken out some time to define what it means to judge let me ask this question. If I see a person today and I see this individual smoking a cigar and I walk up to her/him and say hey why are you smoking, don't you know it's bad for you? have I judged the person?
Some might say "Yes" reason is because I don't know this person on a personal level and it is not in my place to walk up to this person and ask them anything or tell them what to do and what not to do.
Some might say "No" reason is because I asked a question and simply did this out of concern. We live in a society where we only care about ourselves, we no longer take time out to look out for each other. If my main objective was to judge this individual I wouldn't have asked why this person was smoking or have mentioned that it is bad for him/her I would have simply said "you're a bad person for smoking, because you don't even realize what you are doing to yourself, you don't realize how you are slowly dying and you're probably not thinking about how this will effect your loved ones, you must be a selfish human being for smoking". By saying this I have judged this individual spitefully and should I have said that I would have displayed a false depiction of God's love. God did not call us to condemn he called us to correct others with love, to lift others up, to share his gospel that he has died to save us from our sins and to show a true example of what being his child on earth truly is.
I once had a person who I was friends with on FaceBook ( few days ago) and I noticed how he kept posting some freaky post that kept appearing on my timeline. Initially I reported the post and hid it, but after getting weary of doing so, I decided to ask him privately via (Direct Message) why he kept doing that and let me just put it this way he got really offended with me and blocked me. The funny thing here is that I didn't quote scriptures to him as some over-spiritual people would have done, neither did I curse him out I simply asked a question him " why do you keep posting freaky stuff?'
his response was nasty and unnecessary in the end he blocked me. I didn't get to say more than that but in the end, I was able to convey a message to him for the mere fact that he got defensive about my question it tells me that he was pricked in his conscience and inherently knew that what he was posting was not good otherwise he could have just ignored me or would have responded differently. but then again, maybe I asked him at a bad time, who knows?. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What does the scriptures say about judging I will post it below
Matthew 7:1 Judge Not that ye be not judged, it is not in my place as a child of God to judge a single person on this earth no matter how bad or good the person may appear or be. However, this doesn't mean that when I see something wrong or bad that I should keep mute about it. Wouldn't you like someone to help you when you need help? Wouldn't it be better for someone to show you the right way to do something? Jesus did not judge the promiscuous women who slept with that married man. However he did correct her, he told her to go and sin no more. In others words you are free, I will not use your past mistakes against you but don't go to that man's house or any other man's house and do it again. Go and sin no more. He saved her from being killed, Jesus died for us so that we wouldn't have to die and pay the price for our sins.
We should learn to take correction, that is the only way we can grow and learn. If nobody tells me that i'm making a mistake, I will probably do it again and again. In addition to this don't use correction as a leverage to boss others, if you must correct a person, do it with the love of Christ, if this person does not receive you let it go and move on. You can't save everybody because not everybody wants to be saved. Those that will listen will listen and those that won't, simply won't.
Jesus loves you never forget that
